Bimbache

Bimbache Vinícola is one of the most inspiring wine projects to emerge from Spain in recent years. Founded by Rayco Fernández, a bold and passionate wine distributor from Gran Canaria, who is also known for co-creating Puro Rofe in Lanzarote. The name Bimbache hails from the island's original inhabitants, the Bimbaches, the winery pays tribute to a lost culture while reviving a nearly forgotten viticultural landscape.
This project is rooted on the small, remote island of El Hierro, the westernmost of the Canary Islands. It is the youngest of the islands in the chain. Characterized by steep slopes and rugged cliffs that slope toward the ocean, to the north it opens into the inlet of El Golfo: a huge volcanic fracture that forms a natural amphitheater facing the Atlantic. The young soil is low in organic matter, rich in iron (Hierro in Spanish), and has a very low pH that give rise to wines with unique character: vibrant, with lively energy and sharp acidity.
Despite the island’s steep northern slopes, low yields, and challenging growing conditions, Rayco saw immense potential in its unique local grape varieties, diverse soils, and Atlantic climate. With a minimally interventionist approach, Bimbache crafts deeply expressive wines that are original, energetic, and unmistakably volcanic.
