Porta del Vento

Porta del Vento is located in Camporeale on Sicily, and focuses on producing high-quality, natural wine made of local Sicilian varietals. They work with natural and sustainable practices.

The nearby mountains provide optimal growing conditions which lead to freshness, complexity, and depth of character of their wines.

Marco Sferlazzo is the owner and winemaker. He ventured into the field after a lengthy career as a pharmacist in Camporeale. While working, he learned that a nearby vineyard was going to replace all its Perricone and Catatatto vines with Merlot, and he sprang into action, buying the vines himself and converting the property into organic and then biodynamic.

The Porta del Vento winery is situated 600 meters (2,000 feet) above Palermo, near the village of Camporeale, in an area of Sicily where nature can be extremely harsh. The vineyard spans 18 hectares on the hills of the Alcamo DOC and Monreale DOC regions. The sandy soils on sandstone crusts are cultivated mainly using the traditional alberello system, with vines that are nearly fifty years old and exposed to the north, following the steep slopes of the land. At an elevation of 600 meters, the vineyards experience constant, brutal winds that shape the character of the wines. Along with the significant temperature variation between night and day, these conditions help produce wines with great concentration, low alcohol, and vibrant acidity.

Marco produces 100% Certified Organic and Biodynamic wines, adhering to a strict non-interventionist approach. The wines are unfiltered, preserving the elements that make them unique. Porta del Vento's wines are expressive and full of emotion, with a strong sense of terroir that captures the essence of the island.
