Millami

Nestled on Marsala's western coast, Azienda Agricola Millami, run by Fabio Diego Morsello Angilieri, spans 12 hectares across 8 diverse parcels. This family estate cultivates both international grapes like Merlot and Pinot Grigio as well as indigenous varieties such as Catarratto, Grillo, Inzolia, Zibibbo, Nerello Mascalese, Frappato, and Nero d'Avola.

Millami also produces olive oil from century-old groves inherited from Salvatore, the family patriarch. These groves feature native Sicilian varieties.

The Millami story follows Sicily's changing wine landscape. Fabio's grandfather started the vineyards, primarily producing Marsala base wines with small quantities reserved for local sales. His father later left winemaking entirely, selling the grapes to cooperatives and planting fashionable international varieties like Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Merlot - as was common during the 1980s.

Today, Fabio has steered the estate back toward tradition. He's gradually reintroduced indigenous varieties grown in the classic gobelet (bush vine) style. His vineyard management is intentionally protective: short pruning paired with full leaf canopies to shield the fruit from Sicily's intense sun.

Fabio's commitment to organic viticulture respects both the environment and the estate's long-term sustainability.

Fabio gained experience working France's Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Cévennes regions, and now speaks French. He then worked in Tuscany and Piemonte, afterward returning home in 2021 with a clear vision. He modernized the winery by replacing his grandfather's concrete vats with temperature-controlled stainless steel. His winemaking combines tradition with thoughtful innovation, including whole-bunch fermentation and carbonic maceration for the Nero d'Avola and Inzolia wines.
