Barco del Corneta

Barco del Corneta is run by Beatriz Herranz & Félix Jesús Ruiz, and is a family project based in La Seca, in the Rueda appellation of Castilla y León.
It was founded by Beatriz, who returned to her grandfather's plot in the Cantarranas vineyard area and began farming it organically in 2008, planting Verdejo with her mother on sandy, clay and gravel soils over a limestone subsoil at 750 metres altitude. The first vintage was produced in 2010: a single barrel, bottled.
Félix Jesús Ruiz joined the project in 2016, and the two have worked together since, moving into their own winery in La Seca in 2019.

The winery is located in what was formerly the village pharmacy, with 19th-century subterranean cellars carved by hand into limestone still used for ageing. Their vineyards now span five municipalities across Castilla y León: La Seca, Alcazarén, Villanueva de Duero, Aldeanueva del Codonal, and Fermoselle. Each site has distinct soils, altitude, and microclimate. All vineyards are farmed organically without synthetic treatments, and all work is done by hand. Soils are fertilised with sheep manure and natural grasses grown between the rows, which are turned under in spring once the rainy season ends. Grape moths are managed using sexual confusion techniques rather than insecticides.
The range draws on several varieties: Verdejo, Palomino and Verdejo on century-old ungrafted vines in Alcazarén, Viura from Villanueva de Duero, and Juan García from 60 to 80 year old vines in Fermoselle, on the Portuguese border. Across all sites the approach is consistent: low yields, manual harvesting, and minimal intervention in the cellar, with the aim of producing wines that reflect their individual origins and are built to age.
